A great talent in touring cars, Albers has found the transition from heavy DTM cars to light single seaters tough, however he has still outshone his rookie teammate
Patrick Friesacher. He has even challenged the Jordans at some races, most notably Monaco.
Being the first Dutch driver since
Jos Verstappen seems like a hard task to please the motorsports-fanatic dutch, but his success in Touring cars, including a third place finish in the 2004 DTM series, one of the toughest touring car series in the world, has cemented Albers's reputation as a talented driver. By the time Albers scored his first Formula 1 points in the USA, with the aid of a little help, he had already been firmly considered a future talent. It was no surprised then at the end of the season the Dutchman went the way of
Mark Webber,
Fernando Alonso, and
Jarno Trulli and advanced up the grid, as opposed to
Alex Yoong,
Tarso Marques, and
Zsolt Baumgartner, who never managed a career in F1 after their Minardi sojourns. Shortly after the 2005 season finale in China Albers was signed up by
MF1 Racing, formerly Jordan, to race alongside
Tiago Monteiro.
