Enrico Toccacelo seemed to spend a long time in lower Formulae before being given his big break in Formula 1. After finishing second behind fellow Italian
Vitantonio Liuzzi in the 2004 F3000 season, 'Toc' looked like he was struggling to find a seat for 2005.
Sitting on the sidelines for the first half of the year, he was handed a chance when
Patrick Friesacher's time ran out at
Minardi. Enrico was given a chance as third driver for the remainder of the season. While there he got close to the teams regular drivers in practice but wasn't able to race the car.
Instead of performing his regular testing duties in Brazil Enrico was chosen to compete in the inaugural A1 Grand Prix race at Brands Hatch for his country. Probably one of the most well-known drivers on the grid, it was no surprise that Toc was built up as one of the favourites prior to the race. However after a poor qualifying he failed to score points in the sprint race, while in the feature race he made the headlines for all the wrong reasons by punting the Lebanese driver into a multiple roll.
