Gianmaria Bruni

Birthdate:May 30th 1981

Country:Italy Italy

Gender:M

History:
1991 - Pretending to be 2 years older than his actual age of 10, Gianmaria began racing in the 100cc category winning the Trofeo dei Campioni, the Trofeo dei Sagittario and the Trofeo del Triolo.
1992 - Having won the same Trophies again, he added the Italian 100cc regional title.
1994 - Participated for the first time in the Italian and Junior European 100cc Kart Championships.
1995 - Aged only 14, Gianmaria achieved second in the Trofeo dei Campioni and third at the European Championship of the Federation Cup.
1996 - Fourth at the 100cc Junior Italian Championships, second in the Trofeo dei Campioni with three pole positions, and fifth in the Trofeo Internatiozale A. Margutti.
1997 - At just 16 years of age, he drove a single-seater car for the first time (Renault Formula Campus), immediately demonstrating his prowess and earning himself a second line start position on the grid at Magione. In winter testing for the Italian FRCItalia, he broke the track records at Varano, Monza, Misano and Magione.
1998 - Formula Renault Campus Italian Champion, winning at Mugello, Imola, Varano and Misano with pole positions at Vallelunga, Misano, Varano, Paul Ricard and Imola
1999 - Formula Renault Eurocup Champion. Gianmaria’s ability to quickly familiarise himself with unknown circuits and different categories was evident. Apart from Monza and Valle Lunga, all of the circuits he raced were new to him.
2000 - British F3 Championship with Fortec Motorsport. He finished his first British season as the top rookie, ranked 5th in the championship standings with 95 points.International F3 with Fortec Motorsport.
2001 - British F3 Championship with Fortec Motorsport. The start to the 2001 season marked the reunion of Gimmi Bruni and Renault. He was selected to aid with development of the Marques Sodemo tuned Formula Three engine. After defending a top three Championship position during the first five rounds, Gimmi completed the season ranked 5th
2004 - Formula 1: Minardi Cosworth

Entering 2004 many expected Gianmaria Bruni to destroy his team-mate Zsolt Baumgartner. Where this came from I do not know, as Gianmaria had relatively little experience compared to his Hungarian team-mate.

However Bruni did outperform Zsolt, but not by as much as people expected. But not where it mattered. After a first lap crash at Indiapolis Bruni was forced to sit and watch as Baumgartner took a point in a race with a high attrition rate.

At the end of the season Minardi chose to replace both drivers, and Gimmi's F1 hopes had gone.
