After taking the 2001 F3000 championship, Justin Wilson had to wait until 2003 to be given a Formula 1 chance, at Minardi.

The lanky Briton was always going to struggle in the speed-challenged backmarker, however he did do quite well compared to experienced team-mate Jos Verstappen. And when Antonio Pizzonia was sacked by Jaguar, Wilson was snapped up to race for the final six races of the season.

He partnered Mark Webber, the man he had beaten to the F3000 title two years previously. Despite being beaten by Webber, Wilson got closer to the Australian than Pizzonia had ever done. Finally at Indianapolis Wilson took his first Formula 1 point, but was still dropped at the end of the year in favour of sponsor-happy Cristian Klien.

Wilson went to America in 2004, and after a decent first year in Champ Cars he has started winning in 2005. So much so, he's even a contender for the title.
