Martin Brundle's Formula 1 career began way back in 1984, but it took a long time before he finally got a car worthy of his talents.
After running Ayrton Senna close, very close, in Formula 3 Brundle took a step up to join Tyrell in 1984. He took his first podium finish that year, taking second at Detroit. However from then on it went downhill. A crash in Dallas broke both Brundle's ankles, while the team were later disqualified from the '84 results for technical infringements.
It took eight years before Brundle got back on the podium. As Schumacher's team-mate at Benetton he performed well, and took nine podiums in his career, eight at Benetton. Brundle then partnered Mark Blundell in the Ligier and Brabham teams before joining Jordan, where he would end his career in 1996.
Since then Brundle has been a regular commentator for the ITV, often correcting Murray Walker's mistakes. More recently he has been joined by James Allen in the commentary box.
