Oscar was alongside Juan Manuel Fangio the most succesful Argentinean driver in the 1940 decade, He also competed in the I Gran Premio de la Republica Argentina, driving a Maserati A6GCM, Officine Alfieri Maserati, finishing in 5th position, behind Ascari, Villoresi, José Froilán González and Mike Hawthorn!
Oscar was closer than Fangio to compete in Europe. And before. The fate, that undecipherable power for common people's understanding, made that the introductor of Oscar in Europe, Achille Varzi, was killed in Bern, in 1948, at less than 80 km/h. The italian legend hit with his head against the instrumental of his Alfetta; he opened a cut in the forehead that killed him.
Gálvez that saw everything, would always regret the loss of Varzi like the one of who had delighted it running special cars. Oscar would never complain when he noticed that the door that was opening up in Europe was closed. He would never boast of being the first one that was able to defeat the foreign drivers in February of 1949, when with the heavy Alfa 3.8 went hunting all their opponents, one by one, to win them under a rain that flooded the forest of Palermo. Juan Manuel Fangio would define with the traditional genius of lucid compatriot: "Oscar proved us that the Europeans were not super men. That them could be won".
