Pedro De La Rosa has had an on-off Formula 1 career which began in 1999 at Arrows.
Having been chosen ahead of the more experienced Mika Salo, De La Rosa actually scored a point on his Formula 1 debut at Albert Park?. It would be his only point of the year but Arrows kept him for 2000. He scored another two points that year but this wasn't enough for Arrows, who decided to let him go at the end of the season.
Pedro became Prost's official test driver for 2001, but was thrust into a race drive surprisingly quickly. From race five onwards he drove for the Jaguar team, who had lost Luciano Burti to Prost. Pedro didn't score points in his year at Jaguar and was dumped at the end of the season.
De La Rosa has tested for McLaren since then, alongside Alex Wurz?. Pedro made his McLaren debut at Bahrain this year replacing the injured Juan Pablo Montoya. The Spaniard had a spectacular race on the way to fifth, his best ever finish. This season Pedro has also been McLaren's Friday test driver for roughly half the races, sharing the job with Wurz.
