Ralph Firman arguably came into Formula 1 too late to be given a proper shot at it. After spending six, yes six, years in Japan competing in the Formula Nippon championship Ralph was finally given a chance at Jordan.
However in 2003 the Irishman struggled against established team-mate Fisichella. While the Italian was winning in Brazil, Firman found himself down near the back of the grid. He scored his first, and only, Formula 1 points by taking seventh in Spain.
A massive practice crash in Hungary put him out of action for two races. When he came back he was never really considered as a contender for a 2004 drive. Sitting out the next couple of years, Firman was given a chance near the end of 2005 by signing for the Irish A1 Grand Prix team.
