Robert Doornbos had a hugely successful rookie F3000 season last year, and after the F3000 season had finished he even had time to go on Friday testing duties for the
Jordan team in the final three fly-away races of 2004.
Despite being a favourite for the race seat, Doornbos was overlooked in favour of
Tiago Monteiro and
Narain Karthikeyan, and was once again on Friday testing for Jordan for the first half of 2005. However in Germany
Minardi's
Patrick Friesacher sponsorship money dried up, and 'Doorknobs' was given a chance to race for the Italian minnows, alongside fellow Dutchman Cristijan Albers
?. Doornbos asserted himself well, beating Albers and occasionally his former Jordan team-mates. However after
Red Bull's buyout of Minardi, Doornbos may have to settle for a testing seat again.
