History:
1948 - A group of racing enthusiasts from the Royal Automobile Club chose Silverstone hold the first post-war Grand Prix in the October.
1949 - The circuit was redesigned and assumed roughly the shape it has today.
1950 - The first official F.I.A. F1 Grand Prix was held on this circuit which was won by Guiseppe Farina.

Silverstone is famous as being the first track to host a Formula 1 championship race in 1950. However the first event took place in 1948.

Built on the site of a World War II bomber base the track has been altered twice in its 57 year history. However Silverstone didn't host the British Grand Prix regularly until 1987. Prior to that it rotated with Brands Hatch and the now unused Aintree.
