Tiago Monteiro

Birthdate:July 24th 1976

Country:Portugal Portugal

Gender:M

History:

After some moderately successful seasons in the lower formulae, Tiago Monteiro was chosen as Narain Karthikeyan's team-mate for the Jordan Formula 1 team in 2005. In doing so he became the first Portuguese to drive a Formula 1 car since Pedro Lamy in 1996.

Tiago's first season has been relatively uneventful, bar two things. Firstly, he has yet to retire from a Grand Prix. Yes, after fourteen races he has yet to retire, smashing the previous record by a rookie of nine races before retiring.

Secondly, Monteiro has a Formula 1 podium! The Indianapolis farce meant that he was effectively racing his team-mate and the two Minardi's for third place, and therefore a place on the podium. As with most races this season Tiago outperformed his Indian team-mate, making him the first Portuguese driver to ever finish on the podium.
