Zsolt Baumgartner is a Formula 1 pay-driver given his chance by Hungarian government backing and a fat wad of cash.
After a poor start to the year in F3000 Baumgartner took his chance when Ralph Firman picked up an injury in Hungary. The local guy was thrown in to replace him at Jordan. He then raced again in Italy. They would be his only F1 races in 2003.
For 2004 he got a full-time drive, at Minardi. He was regularly last on the grid, and regularly last to finish. However he did take a point at Indianapolis, to the jubilation of his team.
However this was not enough for him to be retained and he has sat on the sidelines for 2005.
